Victorian cell installation for opening of Redhouse in Merthyr Tydfil.
The Victorian holding cell at the old Merthyr Town Hall (built 1896) hosted an installation for the St David's Day opening of Redhouse, a new arts centre in the middle of Merthyr Tydfil.
I was very pleased to be approached by the Director of the Redhouse to have some paintings on display in a Victorian holding cell once used to hold prisoners before they were taken up to the court.
The installation was ready for the grand opening of Redhouse Cymru on St David's Day 2014 and I think Edward, Selina, Catherine and Richard succeeded in scaring lots of the population of Merthyr in the William Foy cell.
A video of the installation can be found here.
The town hall is an awesome building with many original features and the holding cell was the perfect place to highlight the plight of the many poor and unfortunate souls who once passed through it like Edward and Richard below.
